After the Fact
(2023 to the ragged end of 2025)
Everything is a reaction and inspiration hits after life has already happened. Every song is After the Fact.
This third collection is my look at life after a lot o stuff has “gone down.” I’m just trying to get a grasp on things. Music is therapy; music provides an outlet. You can rage on the internet, drive too fast, drink too much, work too hard, shun responsibility, give up, or try to find a way to deal with what is in your head. I’m trying to cope with this.
…and so it went
Written just a few days after an attack on a country and the inevitable continuous response strikes. Just trying to wrap my head around it all.
Not Drink Alone
First real attempt at a period song. I figure that in medieval times I might have been a traveling minstrel. Calculus hadn’t been widely taught then. This some might always be “in progress,” but then again, perhaps not.
Imperfect Memory
Don’t know what to say about this one… just feeling insignificant against the pressure of it all.
All I Need
It’s all in the title. Perhaps it is oversimplification to some extent, but a basement and a band goes a long way to drive off dark shadows. A good friend lent his guitar solo and backing vocals for this; I think it makes all the difference… just wait for it.
Tank’s on Empty
This is a pretty common theme that surfaces in a lot of songs by a lot of people. There is no more energy in the reservoir – no more gas in the tank. Gotta recharge and refill.
Tank’s on Empty (radio edit)
A more FCC friendly version of Tank’s on Empty for those with greater sensitivity to language.
Writer’s Block
I wake up almost every day with a melody in my head and struggle to find some form to let it take to life. The song is free association on that theme…. and maybe worked out ok. Also, my first attempt at a “Sea Shanty” style tune.
FDST
No secret, I hate Daylight Saving Time with the white hot passion of a thousand suns… or something like that. This went from a sarcastic poem to a fun project of a song. Keep with the sunrise friends…
Old Crow
With a voice as lilting as a murder of crows, I present my last project for After The Fact. Perhaps I should just take my guitar and go. Special thanks again to Caleb for the electric guitar. I do like how this turned out.
More to Come, with any luck.
No doubt something will happen in this world which will make me feel the need to vent, cope, talk, turn the Peavy up past 10, and work out a rhythm.
